Fees and processing time
Plan your budget and travel dates with the published fees and timing guidance.
Fee information
Malawi's official eVisa FAQ lists US$50 for a single-entry eVisa, while the Department's separate online fee schedule lists US$75 for a single-entry visa. These official pages disagree. Check the amount shown in the live eVisa checkout before paying; the portal also charges a convenience fee and application fees are non-refundable.
Read the official fee guidance [2]Up to 3 working days
Allow extra time for submission, payment and any follow-up.
A processing estimate is not a guaranteed travel date.
Entry conditions and exceptions
Check whether these rules affect your eligibility, application, or arrival.
Use the passport in your application
The passport used to enter Malawi must be the same passport whose details appear on the eVisa. If you have multiple passports, apply with the one you will carry.
Official guidance [2]Before and during your visit to Malawi
Check the issue date before booking travel
eVisa validity starts when the visa is issued, rather than on your arrival date. Check the dates shown on your approval letter; the three-month single-entry validity is not a three-month permission to stay.
Prepare scanned application documents
Upload scanned passport, photo and any applicable residence-permit files, not camera pictures. The portal asks for passport details, travel information and a photograph.
