Your passport nationality and legal residence serve different purposes
Japan applies the visa-exemption list to the nationality and type of travel document you hold. Your legal residence can affect where you apply and whether an online or agency channel is available, but a residence permit from another country does not replace your passport nationality.
Official guidanceCheck medicines before packing
Japan has separate rules for prohibited and controlled medicines. Check the active ingredient and quantity with MHLW before travel; some medicines need advance import confirmation even when prescribed at home.
Official guidanceYour residence can change the eVisa route and stay limit
For Chinese nationals residing in China, Japan eVisas are issued for 15 or 30 days. For Vietnamese nationals residing in Viet Nam, the eVisa route is limited to designated packaged tours and a 15-day visa. If you live elsewhere, check the eVisa rules for that residence and the period printed on your approved visa.
Official guidanceJapan eVisa has limited arrival methods
The eVisa route is for travel by air or by an international scheduled passenger ferry between Japan and Busan or Shanghai. A different sea route, cruise ship or land arrival is not listed as eligible for eVisa; confirm the paper-visa route with the mission serving your residence before booking.
