No Visa Required
Travel visa-free for tourism
Entry Requirements
Visa Requirement
Cyprus generally requires all non-citizens to hold a valid visa or be eligible for visa-exempt entry. Citizens of certain countries may enter Cyprus for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa for tourism or business. Holders of biometric passports from Serbia, Montenegro, Ukraine, Georgia, North Macedonia, and Moldova are also visa-exempt for up to 90 days per six-month period. All other non-citizens must obtain a visa before traveling to Cyprus.
Passport Validity
Your passport must meet all the following conditions:
- Issued within the previous 10 years from the date of entry.
- Valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from Cyprus.
- Contain at least two blank visa pages.
Mandatory Documentation
All travelers must present:
- A valid passport or travel document recognised by the Republic of Cyprus.
- A return or onward ticket (customs officials may request proof).
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay.
- Medical travel insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000, valid for the entire stay.
Minors
For applicants under 18 years old, a certified written consent from both parents or legal guardians is required, along with copies of their passports and the child’s original birth certificate (or court documentation if applicable). If the minor travels unaccompanied, the consent letter must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country.
Northern Cyprus Warning
Visas or residency permits issued by the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” are not recognised by the Republic of Cyprus. Time spent in northern Cyprus counts towards the 90-day visa-free limit for the Republic of Cyprus.

How to Apply
- Determine whether you need a visa based on your nationality and the purpose and duration of your visit.
- If you are visa-exempt, you do not need to apply in advance; proceed directly to travel with valid documents.
- If you require a visa, identify the correct visa category (e.g., short-stay tourist, student, long-stay).
- Complete and sign the official Cyprus visa application form in English. All sections must be filled accurately.
- Gather all required supporting documents, including your valid passport (with at least two blank pages and validity beyond your stay), a recent passport-sized photograph (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white or light background), proof of accommodation, travel insurance, proof of sufficient funds, and a return/onward ticket.
- For minors, include a certified written consent signed by both parents/legal guardians, along with copies of their passports and the child’s birth certificate.
- Submit your application in person at the Cyprus embassy or consulate in your country of residence, or at an authorised visa application centre (e.g., VFS Global) if available.
- Pay the non-refundable visa application fee at the time of submission. Keep the receipt.
- If required, attend a short interview or provide biometric data (fingerprints/photograph).
- Wait for processing. You can track your application status through the service used. Once approved, collect your visa affixed in your passport.

Standard Processing
- Short-Stay Visa (Tourist/Business): Minimum issuance time is 7 working days if all documents are provided. It is advisable to apply at least 10 working days before your planned travel.

- National Long-Stay Visa (Category D) and Residence Permits: Decisions are usually received within 3 months of application.
Peak Season
Processing times may be longer during summer months and around major holidays due to high application volumes. Apply well in advance.
Denial & Appeals
Appeals Process
If your visa application is refused, you will receive a written notice explaining the reasons for the refusal. The notice will also inform you of your right to appeal. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Civil Registry and Migration Department or to the competent authority indicated in the refusal letter. You should include any additional evidence that addresses the reasons for refusal.
Common Denial Reasons

- Failure to provide a valid travel medical insurance policy with coverage of at least €30,000.
- Incomplete or incorrectly completed application form.
- Passport does not meet validity requirements (issued more than 10 years ago or less than 3 months validity beyond departure).
- Previous overstay or immigration violations in Cyprus or other EU member states.
- Lack of strong ties to your home country (e.g., employment, family, property).
- Submitting false or misleading information.
Stay Guidelines & Regulations
90/180 Day Rule
Visa-free visitors and short-stay visa holders may stay in Cyprus for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. This rule applies to the entire Republic of Cyprus, including the area under Turkish-Cypriot administration.
No Work Allowed on Visitor Visas
Short-stay visas (tourist/business) do not permit any form of employment in Cyprus. Engaging in paid work without the correct work permit or long-stay visa is illegal.
Overstay Penalties
Staying beyond your authorised period can result in fines, visa cancellation, and potential re-entry bans. Overstays may also affect future visa applications to Cyprus and other EU countries.
Mandatory Registration for Long Stays
If you hold a student visa or national long-stay visa (Category D), you must register with the Civil Registry and Migration Department within one week (for students) or within 10 days (for others) of arrival to obtain a temporary residence permit. Failure to register may result in penalties.
Mandatory Address Reporting
All foreign nationals staying in Cyprus must be able to provide their accommodation address. Authorities may request proof of accommodation at any time.
Health Requirements
Vaccination Requirements
No routine vaccinations are mandatory for entry to Cyprus. However, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you have travelled from or through an endemic country as defined by the World Health Organization.
Health Insurance
All visa applicants must have medical travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000, valid for the entire duration of their stay in Cyprus. This is a mandatory requirement for visa issuance.
Health Examinations
For long-stay visas (e.g., student residence permit), you must provide a medical certificate issued within the last 4 months proving you do not have tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, or syphilis. A police clearance certificate from your home country (issued within the past 6 months) may also be required.
Financial Requirements
Short-Stay Visa (Tourist/Business) Proof of Solvency
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover their stay in Cyprus. Acceptable evidence includes:
- Original stamped bank account statements from the last 3 months showing a present balance.

- Proof of employment (e.g., employment letter stating monthly salary, employer’s business license).

Student Visa Proof of Solvency
Student visa applicants must show they have adequate funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses. This can be demonstrated through bank statements, a scholarship award letter, or a sponsor’s financial guarantee.
Long-Stay Visa (Category D) Financial Requirements
Applicants for work or family reunification may need to provide evidence of stable income or a job offer with a specified salary. The sponsoring organisation or individual may be required to submit a bank guarantee in some cases.

Updates
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
Cyprus will soon require visa-exempt travellers (including citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and others) to obtain an ETIAS authorisation before travelling. The system is expected to launch in 2026. ETIAS will be an online application costing €20 (approx. $22 USD) and valid for multiple entries over three years. Travellers under 18 or over 70, and family members of EU citizens, are exempt from the fee. Until ETIAS is operational, current visa-free rules continue to apply.
Recognition of Passports from Specific Countries
As of the latest updates, holders of biometric passports from Serbia, Montenegro, Ukraine, Georgia, North Macedonia, and Moldova may enter Cyprus without a visa for up to 90 days per six-month period. Holders of non-biometric passports from these countries still require a visa. Serbian passports issued by the “Coordination Directorate” are not eligible for visa-free travel.
