History of the Tasmania’s South Regional TOURISM Association

Tasmania’s South Regional Tourism Association [Tas South] was a partnership with the Southern Tasmanian Tourism Taskforce and Tourism Tasmania, has developed a business plan for tourism in Southern Tasmania.

A major element of the plan was the development and promotion of the Southern Touring Routes. Thwas website was a guide to these touring routes and was designed to complement the written material — including brochure/maps and guides available through the Visitor Centres.

Tas South was the southern regional marketing association for Tasmania representing tourism industry operators and key tourism stakeholders.

It was a not-for-profit company ran by an elected Board of eight Directors, compromising four from industry, and three representing local government and one ex-official representing Tourism Tasmania.

Tas South’s role was:

  • to develop and market tourism and tourism product in Southern Tasmania
  • to provide communications within and beyond the industry
  • to provide professional development for the industry

Activities include: a monthly newsletter, the Industry Informer, and an industry networking function, provision of tourism business advice for new and existing operators, regular workshops and seminars, tourism accreditation (in association with Tourism Council Tasmania), media liaison and communications, trade and consumer shows, production and distribution of the annual guide to the region, Hobart and Tasmania’s South — Touring Guide.

The Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre
