Visa and useful information

Travelling to an exotic island is one of the most beautiful trips you can ever make, but travelling to Hawaii is a whole other story. This is one destination which you can find on every traveller’s list, and it is at least once in a lifetime trip you have to make.

However, not many people know that Hawaii is a special state, in the Pacific Ocean, and is part of the United States of America. And as US territory, it does have strict regulations concerning travelling, harsh immigration policies and so on. But you should not allow yourself to get disappointed, as things are much simpler than you may think. Yes, you will need a visa to travel to Hawaii, but procedures are rather user-friendly and the trip is definitely worth it!

So, regardless of your trip’s purpose, make sure you have all the information about the Hawaii visa before you start planning your vacation. It will help you a great deal to know which are the requirements for entering the country.

Some countries are part of the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and citizens of these countries do not have to obtain a visa to enter Hawaii. The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States for business or tourism for up to 90 days or less, without obtaining a visa. However, not all countries participate in this Visa Waiver Program, thus not all travellers are eligible.

Countries participating in the United States Visa Waiver Program:

– Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Korea, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom

Unfortunately, China is not part of this program, so you will need to apply for a visa to enter Hawaiian territory for vacation or business purposes. But, as we’ve mentioned above, the visa obtaining process is not at all difficult, and it can also be conducted online. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Find the embassy’s website or another tool to help you apply online for a Hawaiian visa
  • Fill in your personal information and make sure all data is correct
  • Book an appointment at the Visa Application Center for a visa interview
  • Take the interview and make sure you have all the necessary documents with you

For any information or concern, we recommend going on the visas section of the United States Department of State website and the travel section of the United States Customs and Border Protection website. It will clear things up for you, as you need to be careful during the Hawaii visa obtaining process, so it may not result in your rejection.

And keep in mind that when you arrive in Hawaii, you must register with the Department of Homeland Security, which entails having electronic fingerprints and a digital photo taken.

Requirements for Chinese citizens asking for a Hawaiian visa

Chinese citizens who require a visa to travel to Hawaii must respect the following:

  • Have a valid passport for at least six months from the moment you enter Hawaii
  • Stay longer than 90 days
  • Have a reason go to Hawaii – be it a vacation, business, short-term training, sightseeing, participation in events or contests without receiving any compensation, transit or contractual negotiations
  • Have a return ticket when entering Hawaii, no matter how the entrance in the country is made (by sea or by air)

Chinese citizens who want to travel to Hawaii must also have an MRP (a machine-readable passport). This type of passport is required for all those who want to enter the territory of the United States of America, and if your passport was issued or renewed after 2006, you need an e-passport with a digital photo and an integrated chip containing biometric data.

All other foreign visitors who don’t qualify for the Visa Waiver Program must apply for a tourist visa. This process involves a personal interview which can take several weeks and require a nonrefundable fee. In other words, Chinese citizens who want to travel to Hawaii must apply for the interview long before the travel date. Additional information can be found on the United States Embassies or consulates.

Once again, we advise you to make sure all your documents are in order and remember that, before entering Hawaii, you will need to go through the immigration screening area. After offering the immigration officer the information he requires, you will be asked to put your finger on a device in order to register your fingerprints, and he will also take your facial photograph. After this short process, you are good to go and enjoy your stay in Hawaii.

Why visit Hawaii?

Hawaii offers good weather nearly all year round, but the best period is between April and October. But keep in mind that this destination is a hot spot for tourists, so prepare to find it a bit crowdy from time to time.

However, there are many islands in the Hawaii archipelago, so there are enough places to visit for everyone. One of the first places we’d like to recommend is the Oahu island, where the bustling Honolulu capital is found. This island is the perfect mix of contemporary facilities, nightlife and sere white sand beaches, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The island is also home to the famous Kilauea volcano, which is active and continues to re-shape the natural surroundings every year.

If you are looking for a quieter place, look for the places the screen savers are made of in the Kauai island. Away from the bustle of the biggest island, Kauai is the heaven of the earth for those who just want to enjoy nature, be it on the breathtaking beaches and crystal-clear waters or the hiking trails.

No matter which destination you choose in the Hawaiian Islands, you will surely enjoy a rich and diverse cultural heritage. This melting pot of cultures is influenced by the local culture, as well as Chinese, Samoan, Tahitian, Thai and many more. And you will see its reflections in the architecture, cuisine and the habits of the locals!
